About Matt Hangen

Matt Hangen holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Biblical Theology and Missiology and was a development worker in Togo, West Africa for five years. While serving in West Africa, Matt and his wife Grace connected with Water4 after searching for a better way to do manual well drilling in communities in Togo. Water4 shared their desire to put financially and technologically sustainable solutions in the hands of local businesses.

When Matt and Grace relocated to the US, Water4 was happy to gain someone with field experience to train up-and-coming drill teams as they mature into sustainable businesses. His ability to build/weld/innovate with what was lying on the ground around was exactly what startup entrepreneurs needed. Matt has been an employee of Water4 since 2011, serving in various capacities and building Water4’s programmatic approach from the ground up. He stepped into senior leadership in 2016 and now serves as President and CEO. His 17 years of international development experience allow him to lead from the front line.

Water4 believes in a world where every home, clinic, and school have access to safe, affordable, and reliable water. When affordable access to safe water is available to all, communities thrive and lives are changed forever. Water4 started with a dream where the people suffering from the water crisis would be the ones to ultimately solve it. That dream is coming true today.

Matt and his wife Grace have two beautiful daughters, live in Guthrie, Oklahoma and enjoy all things outdoors.
